The Initiative's overall objective is to ensure the roll out of ultra fast broadband to 75% of New Zealanders over 10 years, initially concentrating on priority broadband users - such as businesses, schools, and health services as well as trenches of residential areas - within the first 6 years. The key principles of the Government's objective are:
- making a significant contribution to economic growth;
- avoiding entrenching the position of existing broadband network providers;
- focusing on building new infrastructure; and
